Steven Wright, Lin, And Thornburg Rehab In PawSox Loss With Rusney Castillo Going 4-5 And Accounting For Half Of Pawtucket’s Hits
The Boston Red Sox rehabbers continued their assignments on Wednesday with Triple-A Pawtucket
Boston’s trio this time was infielder Tzu-Wei Lin, knuckleballer Steven Wright, and reliever Tyler Thornburg. All three appeared in Pawtucket’s 10-8 loss against the Louisville Bats.
Rehabbers Once Again Can’t Help PawSox Overcome Opponents
Lin hit out of the 2-hole as the teams DH and went 0-4 at the plate with a walk, an rbi, a run scored, and two strikeouts. Lin has now appeared in four consecutive games with Pawtucket as he rehabs from a left knee sprain he suffered back on May 4th.
Wright came on in relief and went 3 innings allowing 2 base hits while striking out 1 batter. The knuckleballer has now appeared in two games for Pawtucket and is rehabbing from a knee injury that has plagued him since 2017. Between his two appearances he has thrown 4.2 innings allowing 1 earned run on 3 base hits while striking out 3 batters.
Thornburg worked 1.2 innings of hitless baseball but had control problems. The reliever walked 3 batters and was tagged for an earned run while striking out 2 batters. The former Brewer is rehabbing from a hip impingement he allegedly suffered on May 22nd. Thornburg like Wright has appeared in two rehab games with a collective 2.2 innings pitched allowing 1 earned run on no hits, 3 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
The Play-by-Play, Ryan Weber Struggles, Rusney Castillo Has 4-hit Ball-Game
The starter for Pawtucket was Ryan Weber who struggled lasting just 4 outs while allowing 7 runs, 6 earned, on 6 base hits while walking 2 and striking out 2 batters.
Much of this games runs came in the first two innings with 13 runs scored in those two innings alone. After Weber allowed a 4-spot in the bottom of the 1st inning Pawtucket’s offense was able to storm right back in the top of the 2nd.
With the bases loaded and a 4-2 score Chad De La Guerra blasted a grand slam to make it a 6-4 ball-game. But with Weber struggling the Bats took a 7-6 led in the bottom of the second and never looked back winning the ball-game 10-8.
Pawtucket despite scoring 8 runs only notched 8 hits on the ball-game and 6 of which came from two players.
In the lead-off it was Gorkys Hernandez staying hot going 2-4 with an RBI and a walk as he is hitting .385 in the month of June through 12 games. The other hitter of importance is Rusney Castillo who had 50% of Pawtucket’s hits going 4-5 with with 2-runs scored.
