On Friday Major League Lacrosse, MLL, announced that their 2020 season which was set to tip-off on May 30th would be delayed. The decision was made by the league office and the team presidents who have been monitoring the COVID-19 Pandemic closely in recent weeks.
Ultimately this decision was made in order to protect the players, coaching staff, and fans. The new start date is not yet known as the league and the teams plan on working with both federal, state, and local officials to determine when it will be safe to start the 20th season of MLL. In the interim MLL has set up a fund to aid players in-case the season is unable to get underway.
This was the right move by MLL but speaks to the severity of the situation. MLL made this decision a little less than two months out of their opener. It speaks to the difficulty other leagues may have in starting their seasons or re-starting their seasons.
