Las Vegas learn the name Jack Dugan. Dugan who is a draft pick of the Golden Knights slammed home the shootout winner on Saturday night to lift the Friars over Big Red Cornell.
With the Friars become the 2020 Fortress Invitational Champions with a 2-2 victory over No. 2 ranked Cornell.
Providence took an early 1-0 lead with Tyce Thompson getting the Friars on the board in the first period for his 15th goal of the season. Thompson was assisted by Michael Callahan. Cornell was able to net the equalizer by the end of the period with shots favoring Big Red 8-3 at the end of the 1st period.
Parker Ford gave Providence a 2-1 lead assisted by Jack Dugan and Callahan in the second period. Unfortunately for the Friars Cornell scored late in the third period with their goaltender pulled to tie the game at 2-2.
Officially the game ended in a 2-2 tie but in order to determine the tournaments winner a 5:00 OT and an ensued. That is when the nations leading point getter in Dugan slammed it home to give Providence the trophy.
Up next the Friars will play AIC Yellow Jackets on Thursday before returning to Hockey East action on Saturday when they play host to the UCONN Huskies.
