Cumberland Clippers Football Defeats Attleboro In A Thriller To Open 2017 Season
On Friday night at Tucker Field in Cumberland, Rhode Island, the Clippers High School Football team defeated the Attleboro Bombardiers in an absolute thriller of a game.
It was a back and forth affair throughout much of the game with Cumberland scoring the winning touchdown with just a minute remaining in the game.
Cumberland’s Jack Andrews converted the extra point to put the Clippers up one point over Attleboro.
The Bombardiers were able to return the Cumberland kick and drove down the field into the redzone with an opportunity to win the game on a field goal attempt. But Cumberland’s goal line defense was strong throughout the night and was able to block the field goal attempt to seal the victory.
The final score of this one was 33-32.
This game is sort of a preseason game for Cumberland despite the game going on their actual record in terms of wins-losses. But it will not affect the final playoff standings down the road since it was an out of state game.
The next game for Cumberland is on September 16th against Portsmouth at Tucker Field.
