Boston Bruins Announce Signing Of Wiley Sherman

Published

on

The Boston Bruins are on a roll right now with multiple of their prospects to contracts.

This time around it was former Harvard Crimson defenseman Wiley Sherman who has signed a two-year entry-level contract with the team starting in 2018-19. Sherman will be joining the AHL Providence Bruins on an ATO for the remainder of the 2017-18 season.

The 22-year-old is 6-foot-7 and appeared in 33 games as a senior for the Crimson. He tallied three goals and four assists for seven points. In his junior season for Harvard, he helped the team win an ECAC title along with establishing a career-high 13 assists in 36 games. His goal high came in his sophomore season when he tallied four goals along with six assists in 31 games played.

At Harvard, he played alongside newly signed Bruins forward Ryan Donato for the entirety of his time in college.

Prior to attending Harvard Sherman played four years of high school hockey at the Hotchkiss School located in Salisbury, Connecticut where he tallied 11 goals and 27 assists in 99 career games. Hotchkiss has pumped out NHL talent in the past with the most recent players being Torrey Mitchell and Luke Glendening.

The Greenwich, Connecticut native was originally selected by the Bruins in the fifth round (150th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

Sherman’s height is very interesting with the d-man just two inches shy of current Bruins captain Zdeno Chara. So yeah this is a big guy.

Boston Bruins Provide Injury Update On Rick Nash

It feels like the Boston Bruins have a new injury every game with the latest injury being to veteran forward Rick Nash.

Nash was a late scratch ahead of Monday night’s OT loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets with the initial thinking that he was going to be good-to-go. Shortly after game-time, it was announced that Nash would be game-to-game with an upper-body injury.

After the loss, Boston Bruins HC Bruce Cassidy provided a quick update on Nash saying the injury occurred in their win over the Tampa Bay Lightning and the team had though eh was going to be fine.

He got hit in Tampa, so we thought he was fine. He had an upper-body injury. This morning –
pregame skate – we thought he’d be fine, and it turned out after pregame skate, early afternoon,
he wasn’t, so, you know, we had to make a call for Anton Blidh.

With injuries continuing to build for Boston it becomes harder and harder to set the lineups with so many players either being called up or coming right out of college like Ryan Donato. For Cassidy it is sort of tough luck but that they have to have the next man up mentality.

You know, call a player up, right? We signed one out of college; that helped. So, that’s it. It’s
uncontrollable to a certain extent. It’s kind of enough, now. I would agree. We’ve had our share,
so let’s get these guys healthy, get ready to play. But, I don’t know. You’ve got to play the game
in front of you and you just hope the string of, kind of, tough luck, is over. But, you know, that’s
it. It’s a physical game, and we’ve said all along, to have successful seasons, both regular and
playoffs, you need a certain level of health. So, that’s what we’re hoping, that these guys come
back, and that’s it. Until then, we plug the holes, play the game in front of you, like I said, and do
our best to sustain our level of play. I thought, tonight, our effort was outstanding. Guys
competed really hard, had plenty of chances, actually, got four goals – could have had more. I
liked our compete away from the puck. I don’t think we gave up – wasn’t trading chances all
night; we did a good job. We had a few breakdowns in front of our net, and they were
opportunistic.

Boston Bruins Confused By Non-Call That Cost Them A Point

Published

on

The Boston Bruins fell to the Columbus Blue Jackets in overtime on Monday night in a rather controversial way with a non-call in OT potentially costing them the game.

The non-call was a penalty shot that should have been awarded to forward Brad Marchand.

For the Boston Bruins coaching staff there was a lot of confusion throughout the night but Bruce Cassidy acknowledged the team had their power-play chances during the game with only one being converted.

Listen, they make their calls. I was more confused about, like I said, I thought there was clearly two icings that directly resulted in goals. That was disappointing to me, but life goes on. We got our power-play opportunities; we were able to covert on one of them, so no. Hopefully, the next time we’re in overtime, a call goes our way. It’s just the way it is.

A tough non-call at the end of this bitter loss. Looks to be a clear miss by the officials but then again it is on Marchand who tends to not get the benefit of the doubt given his track record.

The NHL season is long and calls go for and against teams all the team, it is important not to read too much into this one.
