Red Sox Prospect Nick Lovullo Has Done Everything He Needs To Do So Far With Pawtucket

Boston Red Sox prospect Nick Lovullo, son of current Arizona Diamondbacks manager and former Red Sox coach Torry Lovullo, got the chance to open the 2019 season with AAA Pawtucket.

After finishing the 2018 season with AA Portland, and only hitting .203 with two home runs and fourteen RBI’s, it was kind of a shock that the organization decided to give him a promotion to AAA to begin the 2019 season.

After all, it would be the highest level he has played at in his career.

Nick Lovullo Brings Energy To The Field

Nick Lovullo is appearing in his third game of the season Saturday afternoon when the Paw Sox play the third game of their four game set with the Syracuse Mets. It will be the first time that Lovullo has seen the field at McCoy Stadium.

His last time out on April 9th in Buffalo, Lovullo had three base hits, one RBI, and scored two runs as the Paw Sox went on to win by a score of 6 to 4.

“He’s done everything that we’ve asked” said Paw Sox manger Billy McMillon prior to Saturday afternoon’s game.

“It’s a tough role to be in, that utility guy that plays a couple of times a week. But he brings energy. He understands the game. Don’t expect a fall off when he’s in the lineup” added McMillon.

Even though Lovullo has only 16 and 2/3 innings in the field this season, he has not committed an error. As a utility player, he has experience at second, third , and shortstop. With 201 career games at second base, he has a .978 fielding percentage. For comparison, Red Sox utility infielder Brock Holt has a career .983 fielding percentage at second base.

Right now, Nick Lovullo needs to work on his timing at the plate and what he does there. But he does have the glove to possibly push him up to Boston.

It will take a lot of time and work, but the energy that Lovullo has shown so far this season, can translate to success on the field. In turn, that could lead to him getting the call up to Boston sooner rather then later if his hard work pays off.
