The New England Revolution take on NYC FC at 1:30 pm on Saturday, March 24th at Gillette Stadium located in lovely Foxboro Massachusetts.
The Revolution are currently 1-1-0 on their young MLS season with 3 points facing a solid NYCFC team.
Saturday’s match will be the first of two regular-season meetings between the Revs and NYCFC. In the most recent matchup between the two sides, New England defeated New York City, 2-1, at Gillette Stadium on October 15, 2017. The Revs will look to improve on their 3-1-0 all-time record against NYCFC in matches played at Gillette Stadium.
In Saturday’s match, the Revolution will see the return of Antonio Delmea and Claude Dilena, both of which served a one-game suspension after being handed red cards in the March 3rd season opener against the Philadelphia Union. Also expected back is defender Gabriel Somi who suffered a concussion in the March 10th game against the Rapids but is ready to go with all accounts pointing towards him being on the pitch.
Taking down NYCFC could be a huge moment for Head Coach Brad Friedel who is looking to garner his first winning record as the Revs HC.
Kelyn Rowe: “I think they’re very good going forward. They have a lot of players that can attack and not just their forward front two [or] three. Their wing backs get involved as well and they’re very good at cutting plays out in the midfield. They’re going to be missing a few key players, but I think coming into New England, we’re very good against many teams, but New York [City] as well. I think we’re going to play our game and attack them on the wings.”
As for other storylines to watch out for, forward Juan Agudelo could be in line to make his 100th career MLS start and if records a goal he will be the eighth Revs player to reach 30-goals with the team, midfielder Diego Fagundez is one goal away from moving into sole possession of third place in Revs regular season history passing Steve Ralston with both having 42 goals, midfielder Kelyn Rowe is two goals short of becoming the sixth Revs player to be in the 30/30 club.
For that last one, if Rowe accomplishes this feat he will join teammates Diego Fagundez and Lee Nguyen on the list.
