Home Win in Terrible Conditions
Patriots were coming off a good road win last week in Philadelphia and came into tonight with a equally strong win. However, even at home, Foxboro’s conditions were absolutely brutal for both teams. Cold weather and mixed rain was rough with wind was over 17 mph. But it’s nothing new for the Patriots, as this is common in New England especially in the winter.
In fact, going into last night’s game the Cowboys had the #1 ranked offense in the NFL and were competing against the Patriots #1 ranked defense. And considering the conditions, the defense did their part. CB Stephon Gilmore was on Cowboys WR Amari Cooper and held him to two targets and zero receptions. The best highlight of the night was special team captain Matthew Slater blocking a punt attempt by punter Chris Jones which set up the Patriots to score the only TD of the game.
Offense Clicking But Still Struggling
Despite the Patriots offense still showing struggles, it was clear that the offense was clicking at times due to the return of LT Isaiah Wynn. He helped in improving the offensive line tremendously (this includes RT Marcus Cannon playing sick). But it’s clear that Tom Brady and his recieving core still need plenty of work before the playoffs.
But the game was a strong statement by the Patriots defense and continues their winning streak of keeping their opponents to 14 or fewer points in their 10 wins this season. With the win tonight the Patriots will continue their streak of 10+ wins for the last 17 seasons dating back to 2003.
Going into next week, the Patriots will be heading to NRG Stadium to take on the Houston Texans after they beat the Indianapolis Colts 20-17. The game will take place on December 1st, on Sunday Night Football at 8:20 PM EST.
