The New England Revolution took on FC Dallas on Saturday night in the friendly confines of Gillette Stadium. Both teams entered the match riding four-game unbeaten streaks but only one could emerge with a five-game unbeaten run.
For much of the first half, both sides had their fair share of quality scoring chances and that continued through much of the second. But the issue that kept on plaguing New England was their inability to place their shots properly. It is for that reason that New England fell to FC Dallas 1-0 for their first home loss of 2018.
With the loss, the Revs record falls to 3-2-1 on the season.
New England Revolution Offense
Revs 1st Half Offense
The New England Revolution offense started off the night with an Andrew Farrell pass just missing Teal Bunbury up front. New England’ s offense had a series of chances with the first real one of the match coming in the 24th minute with Bunbury just missing a header high of Dallas goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer.
The Revs would continue to apply pressure to Maurer with a close look by Gabriel Somi and a Bunbury header hitting the keeper right in his hands.
Overall the first half offense of the Revs was solid applying pressure but with every attempt including a point-blank shot by Scott Caldwell, was denied by Maurer who had a rather impressive first half.

Revs Second-Half Offense
In order to try and push the Revs to find their first goal Friedel substituted in Juan Agudelo for Scott Caldwell to start things off in the second half. Caldwell had one shot on goal in the first half with an 88.9% passing accuracy and 6 tackles. The move to replace Caldwell with Agudelo though was an attempt to get a tad faster.
Agudelo did get a look rather quickly though with a Bunbury pass creating a one-timer chance by Agudelo that was saved by Maurer.
The next real attempt by the Revs offense was a Fagundez shot that went wide left int he 64th minute.
One of the issues that became more and more apparent was that every New England shot either had too much on it or right at the chest of Maurer. Despite increasing their shot output in the second half the Revs, for the most part, didn’t make Maurer really work for his saves.
New England Revolution’s Defense Effort
New England’s defense stood relatively strong in front of Turner with the first real pressure that FC Dallas had of the game coming in the 11th minute but it was turned away by Andrew Farrell who deflected their first shot out of bounds.
As a whole, every first half break Dallas would have was turned away by Revolution defenders with Farrell being a pivotal part of their first-half defensive success.
In the second half, everything was going New England’s way until the 76th minute when Jacori Hayes scored off of a pass from Roland Lamah. This was the first goal scored by either team. Andrew Farrell is one of the defenders who was at fault for this goal. Farrell couldn’t clear the ball and then couldn’t close on Lamah which led to the goal by Hayes.
Goalkeeping Of Breakout Goalkeeper Matt Turner
The one thing that has truly been impressive with Turner this season has been his ability to make timely saves. This ability continued to impress against FC Dallas with the keeper making a number of high pressure saves.
Turner made one point-blank save in the 16th minute on a header by Cristian Colmán and then another one in the 40th minute that may have been more impressive.
Turner gave up his first goal in over two matches in the 76th minute with the goalkeeper not able to stretch out and block a goal by Jacori Hayes. Sort of hard to blame Turner on this one with the goalkeeper having made the 3 previous saves and Hayes hitting a rather clever shot to get the ball past the outstretched Turner.
